We’re about to close, oh thank you, thank you, thank you. I can’t even begin to tell you the hell it has been for the last couple of months. People tell horror stories about living with their in laws, but my MIL is actually psycho and doesn’t like my kids, and has gone exceptionally out of her way to make sure they know it. That plus the fight I’ve had to both not give into depression or walk away entirely has made this even harder. But the end of the tunnel is giving off light and we will be moving in soon.
Unfortunately, we don’t get the whole house as of yet, which is making me kinda cranky, but whatever. We get it on the 1st of August and that’s good enough.
See, the original owner threw up a wall and seperated it into 2 apartments. But when they listed it, they said1990 square feet with attached guesthouse, which was a lie. It’s actually 1340 square feet with an attached guest house that adds another 650 feet. So everyone came through thinking it was this enourmous house with a guest house, when in all reality, you have to knock down a wall, and tear out a kitchen in order to have it all one house. An no one wanted to do that. So here we come, take one look at it, and say it’s perfect, we can do the work and it’s absolutely big enough.
Under normal circumstances, we never would have been able to buy this place, and would have ended up in some cheesy little sub-division where I would have been completely miserable for the next 30 years. Luckily for us, the owner had defaulted on payments, and the house had moved into a short sale which is one step away from a forclosure. Which had knocked $98,000 off the price and into the realm of doable. Made even more possible with a $20,000 grant from one of our affordable home help companies that we have here.
Either Monday or Tuesday we close, then about 24 hours till we get the keys, and then we move into the tiny guesthouse area. All 6 of us. Because it’s empty, and we’re that desperate. Then on August 1st, the tenants on the larger side leave, and we get busy. Tear the wall down, throw up a dog fence and move in lock, stock, and barrel.
And in a couple of weeks when I have the whole house, I’ll be able to have my own internet again, instead of having to borrow someones. And oh, that will be the next happy day. And we’ll have TV again. Something we’ve done without all this time, but I’m actually looking forward to sitting down and vegging for an hour. We’re moving into a fixer upper though, so there won’t be mondo vegging out for any of us.
Ah, freedom. So very close and so very near.
