Cats sit on the fence
Yowling their pain
To a desolate sky
Wolves in the distance
Add their horrified cry
Police lights flash
As cars go by
And the city lights flicker
To the watching naked eye
An empty heartbeat echoes
Down a dark alleyway
Nightlife passes by
But misses the cry
Unseen and worn out
A hand reaches forth
For someone to see
But lost in the darkness
In the cracks, ignored
Brushes away a tear
Tears away from the pain
And forsaken by all
Slips into the darkness
Unknown, unheard, unwanted
It’s raining on Valentine’s day
My heart lies breaking
True love’s bliss flying away
No matter the love
I poured with my soul
The pitcher overflows
But the cup has a hole
No patchwork could repair
What was cracked
Lays shattered
My heart lies broken
And the rain comes down
On the parade I thought to have
Pain tears me up inside
So strong I can’t even describe
It eats at me from the inside out
And brings a head to all my doubts
Everything I want in life
I see drifting along like a piece of spice
It dangles itself before
Opens its mouth
And with its mocking words
Gives a harsh face to all my fears
“Nothing deserved
Nothing given
The emptiness in you
Is the only thing living
You reap what you sow
And gain through belief
But nothing you’ve done
Deserves such relief.”
A taunt of disbelief
That I will ever reach
Goals in my life that laugh at me
For even thinking I can dream
And anything in life
Will ever come to me
It’s the end of the beginning
The last chapter has closed
My pen hits the paper
And writes a story untold
A new lust for life
A passion reborn
For all second chances
I had thought to mourn
No longer held back
Life begins anew
My time has come forth
And it roars through my soul
I tip back my head
Let loose a raging fire
And yell “Watch out world!
I’m here to take over!”

Desolate in the wake
Of desires reawakened
Then left behind
Life a mystery that
No one can solve
Beneath the surface
Roiling thoughts
Bubble with want, need
Desperate to feel
To hold, to touch
It comes to the surface
Fighting for air
A way to achieve
What was lost
Can now be found
Swallowed whole
Breathed in
The luxury bequeathed
And taken for all it is
